On Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon, Weston County Library will host a brown bag lunch program with Denice Wheeler and Lila Bond who co-authored the book, The Lonely Life: Basque Sheepherders in Wyoming.
Basque sheepherders have vanished from the landscape of Wyoming, but their influence on our history is important both economically and culturally.
Sheepdog trials, recipes, and many industries that benefit from sheep are described and the influence that these immigrants to America have had on many communities in Wyoming. Their importance in economic development is richly described.
The book features over ninety pictures, sixty individual stories, and an in-depth background on Basque history and heritage. The program will include a presentation, question and answer session, and a display of Basque items.
